Christian Business

Under Attack

for Support of Marriage

Homosexual activists are targeting one of the nation's leading Christian businesses, urging an economic boycott of the Chick-fil-A restaurant chain.  Spokesmen for the homosexual community are claiming that the company is "anti-gay," and have derided the company's leading product as "Jesus chicken."

Chick-fil-A has come under fire because some of its Pennsylvania restaurants donated sandwiches and brownies to a marriage seminar conducted by the Pennsylvania Family Institute.  The seminar was entitled "The Art of Marriage:  Getting to the Heart of God's Design."

Homosexual groups claim that the Pennsylvania Family Institute (PFI)  is an "anti-gay" organization because of its efforts to preserve traditional marriage in that state.  PFI is a a sister organization to the Missouri Family Policy Council, and is the Pennsylvania affiliate organization of Focus on the Family.

The controversy prompted Indiana University at South Bend to remove Chick-fil-A from its campus food court in response to demands from a pro-homosexual campus group.  The University recently reversed its decision and reinstated Chick-fil-A as a full-service food provider at South Bend.

Jim Daly, President of Focus on the Family, expressed dismay at the Chick-fil-A controversy.  "What have we come to when a company is booted from a campus for being perceived as supporting traditional marriage, something the majority of Americans still strongly support?  What's at stake here is not the loss of a food vendor but rather the loss of free speech and religious liberty."

Bishop E. W. Jackson, President of STAND ('Staying True to America's National Destiny) says the attacks on Chick-fil-A are part of a continuing campaign of anti-Christian bigotry.  "This is further proof of the insidious and dangerous hatred by homosexual activists of any Christian who dares to live out their Biblical values.  The problem in society today is not hatred of homosexuals, but hatred by homosexuals of anyone who refuses to say 'amen' to their sexual behavior."

Bishop Jackson is calling on the Christian community to "buycott" Chick-fil-A.  "Go out of your way to patronize this fine business.  They have a right to support whomever they wish without being persecuted for their Christian faith and values."

Chick-fil-A has made a name for itself by closing its stores on Sunday in observance of the Lord's Day.  The corporation's mission statement, established by founder Truett Cathy, is "to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us."  One of its core principles is to "operate the business according to Biblical principles."

Chick-fil-A operates a philanthropic arm known as the WinShape Foundation, which supports summer camps for youth, 14 foster homes, and has provided more than $26 million in college scholarships.  The company operates its own Winship Marriage Retreat Center.

Please be praying for the owners and employees of Chick-fil-A restaurants that they will be blessed because of their faithful Christian witness and testimony.

Law Targeting Pro-Life PRC's Ruled Unconstitutional

A federal judge has struck down a law adopted by the city of Baltimore regulating pro-life pregnancy resource centers.  The ordinance required that crisis pregnancy centers post signs stating that they do not offer abortions or birth control services and do not have licensed medical professionals on staff.

U.S. District Judge Marvin Garbis ruled that the ordinance infringed on the freedom of speech of pregnancy resource centers and amounted to viewpoint discrimination.

"Whether a provider of pregnancy-related services is 'pro-life' or 'pro-choice,' it is for the provider--not the government---to decide when and how to discuss abortion and birth control methods," Garbis wrote.

Matt Bowman, attorney for the Alliance Defense Fund, says Judge Garbis made the right call.  "This is a huge win for the health of women and a defeat for the profiteering abortion industry that passes laws like this in order to restrict women's choices in obtaining free abortion alternatives."

"In sharp contrast to the law-breaking abortion industry, pro-life pregnancy centers have a stellar record of integrity and their opponents can cite no examples of abuse or so-called 'lying.'  To the abortion industry, saying that abortion is bad is defined as a lie."

Bowman adds that there is a distinction between the Baltimore ordinance and pro-life informed consent laws.  "Laws governing informed consent for abortion rightly regulate information given by a licensed doctor prior to an abortion.  Laws against pro-life pregnancy centers attack private unlicensed citizen speech solely because they speak on the issue of pregnancy from the pro-life perspective."

Under the provisions of the Baltimore ordinance, pregnancy resource centers who failed to comply would have been subject to fines of $200, plus $50 for each day of continuing noncompliance.

It was clear that the ordinance was targeted to harass pro-life pregnancy support centers.  A proposed amendment to the bill that would have required abortion clinics to post a sign saying they do not provide abortion alternatives was soundly defeated.

Outcry Erupts Over New Abuses at Planned Parenthood Clinics

A national furor has taken hold following fresh revelations involving the business practices of abortion provider Planned Parenthood.  A new undercover investigation has revealed Planned Parenthood employees willing to work with purported sex traffickers to provide abortions to young girls working for them.

The undercover sting operations occurred at Planned Parenthood clinics in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and at clinics in Richmond, Roanoke,

Falls Church, and Charlottesville, Virginia.  The undercover investigations were conducted by a group of pro-life activists known as Live Action.  The group has engaged in previous undercover work at other Planned Parenthood clinics in the past, discovering similar shocking behavior by Planned Parenthood employees.

In the latest sting, a man and woman posed as a pimp and and a prostitute, asking how they could obtain abortions for the underage "sex workers" that they "managed."  "We're involved in sex work," the man tells the Planned Parenthood employee.  "Some of [our girls] are like, ah, they're kind of young.  Some of them are like 15, 14, and some of them don't speak any English."

The clinic manager at the New Jersey clinic responded, ""I'm assuming most of them are coming here illegally?"  She then coached the actors to have the girls lie about their age to avoid mandatory reporting laws, saying:  "If they're minors, just put down that they are students...If they are under a certain age, we want as little information as possible...we want to make it look as legit as possible...we just play stupid."

When asked by the actors how soon the underage "sex workers" could once again prostitute themselves after an abortion, the clinic manager said:  "A minimum of two weeks."  She then suggested ways the young girls could continue to provide sexual "services," including "just being that extra action walking by" to advertise sex to potential clients."

When asked about a continuing business relationship in obtaining abortions for the underage "sex workers," the clinic manager said, "Worse ever comes to worst, you guys come see me.  I'll jump in...with nobody looking....That's why you come and ask for me only."

A similar episode unfolded at the clinic in Richmond, Virginia.  The clinic employee advised the purported pimp and prostitute how they could get around Virginia's laws requiring parental consent for abortions.  "There are ways...that we can get around that if you ever need it.   If someone's a minor and they don't want their parents to fill out paperwork and we kinda help you set it up...We're pretty good at handling it if someone doesn't want someone else to know...We've kinda got it all."

When the employee was informed that the underage girls were "sex workers," the employee responded, "We see people from all walks of life.  For a while we were treating all the girls at Paper Moon (a local strip club)...No judgement, no sharing of information...nothing here."  Employees at the Falls Church, Roanoke, and Charlottesville clinics were also willing to assist the purported underage sex trafficking ring.

"This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Planned Parenthood intentionally breaks state and federal laws and covers up the abuse of the young girls it claims to serve," says Lila Rose, President of Live Action.  "Time and time again, Planned Parenthood has sent young girls back into the arms of their abusers.  They don't deserve a dime of the hundreds of million dollars they receive in federal funding from taxpayers.  Congress must cease funding and the Department of Justice should investigate this corrupt organization immediately."

Planned Parenthood has fired the New Jersey clinic manager, and stated publicly that the sordid behavior of this employee is an isolated incident.  Yet previous sting operations by Live Action have demonstrated a continuing pattern of flouting government laws and of a willingness to conceal the sexual exploitation of minors.

During the summer of 2008, Live Action conducted a sting operation named the Mona Lisa Project at seven clinics in Indiana, Arizona, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky.  A young woman claiming to be 14 years old inquired about an abortion, informing clinic employees that she had been impregnated by a 31-year old man.  Clinic employees were willing to ignore their legal responsibility to report the alleged incident of statutory rape, with comments such as "that information will stay within these walls" and that "we do sometimes bend the rules a little bit."

Live Action also engaged in a sting they labeled the Racism Project.  An individual posing as a potential donor called seven Planned Parenthood clinics across the country offering to make a contribution for the purpose of aborting black preborn children.  He told a clinic employee in Ohio "there's definitely way too many black people in Ohio" and an employee of a clinic in Idaho that "the less black kids out there the better."

None of the Planned Parenthood employees objected to the purported donor's intentions and were each willing to accept the money.  None of this is surprising since Planned Parenthood's founder, Margaret Sanger had unabashed racist attitudes, calling blacks "human weeds" who needed to be "exterminated."  Planned Parenthood has had a history of placing its clinics in urbanized areas in close proximity to neighborhoods with large African-American populations.

Marjorie Dannensfelder, President of the Susan B. Anthony List, says "the unbroken chain of examples of exploitation is appalling."  "The exploitive roots and track record of Planned Parenthood is a largely untold story that now cannot be ignored.  "The horror of the logic behind Planned Parenthood's founding has come to roost in modern form:  it is the primary partner of those who degrade and exploit women."

Tony Perkins,  President of Family Research Council, says it's time for the federal government to end its financial ties to Planned Parenthood.  "Planned Parenthood has again proven that they are nothing more than a...highly corrupt organization that will conceal a crime as disgusting as child prostitution--and ensure that it quietly continues.  Americans work too hard for their dollars to fund an organization this devoid of concern for young women and basic decency."

The latest scandal has given fresh impetus to legislation filed by Congressman Mike Pence of Indiana to terminate federal funding of Planned Parenthood.  Pence's bill, known as the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, would prohibit the disbursement of federal "family planning" funds to any entity that performs abortions, or provides funding to any other entity that performs abortions.  The legislation has 154 co-sponsors, including Missouri Congressmen Todd Akin, Billy Long, and Blaine Luetkemyer, and Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler.

Pence says Americans should be disturbed that Planned Parenthood "has been recorded aiding and abetting underage sex trafficking."  "The recent release of this undercover video exposing duplicity and potential criminality by Planned Parenthood is an outrage.  The time to deny any and all funding to Planned Parenthood is now."

Charmaine Yoest, President of Americans United for Life, is calling on Congress to conduct a formal investigation into possible criminal misconduct by Planned Parenthood.  "It is time to hold Planned Parenthood accountable for their seedy business practices.  For too long, they have lived off the American taxpayer with little or no oversight. "

"In the last week alone, we've seen proof in Philadelphia that women's lives were at risk while officials turn a blind eye to what goes on at an abortion clinic.  Now we see video of a Planned Parenthood clinic manager talking about how to manipulate the law to cover up the abuse of underage girls captive in the sex trade.  How many girls have to suffer and die before we investigate the abortion industry?"
